Bike Riding May Mean High Risk Head Trauma

Filed under: Uncategorized — wana at 4:43 pm on Thursday, November 27, 2008  Tagged , ,

It’s a fact. More people are riding bikes these days to get from one location to another. The cost savings alone are very attractive and the scenery along the way isn’t bad either. It isn’t just the cost of gas that prompts those with a spirit of adventure to take to the streets on a bike.

Lay the blame on heavily congested roads, parking restrictions and a host of other annoying things that bug drivers. Unfortunately bike riders and vehicles don’t always share the road they way they are supposed to, resulting in accidents, injuries and possible deaths.

You’d think with the special lanes and trails designated for bike riders that accidents wouldn’t happen as often. Sadly that’s just not the case. The truth is drivers don’t respect cyclist’s rights. The other truth is many younger cyclists don’t have enough road savvy to share the road safely. Thanks to the bicyclists not really knowing the rules of the road, or car drivers ignoring them, there is at least one cyclist injured roughly every 6 hours.

Another shocking statistic is that each year there are at least one million children injured in bike related accidents. Some of these accidents involve cars and those result in the most serious injuries, usually head trauma. Head trauma is devastating and choosing a lawyer with bike accident experience is your best bet.

Choosing an attorney with bike experience makes sense because it is difficult to prove physical, emotional or cognitive injury. That’s just how these cases evolve. Most bike injury lawsuits need extensive investigation and if you have an attorney who knows the ropes, it goes a long way towards winning your case.

No matter how the accident took place, a fall almost always causes significant injuries and sometimes will result in coma. A coma happens when severe brain trauma is present. The most common head injuries in a bike accident are skull fractures, concussions and contusions. All of these may require lifelong medical care.

Sometimes it isn’t as easy as just fixing your bike. If you have suffered serious injury as the result of a bike accident, contact a bike injury attorney who will help assess your claim.

Samsung LCD TV – Samsung’s Touch of Color LCD Flat Screen TV Review

Filed under: Uncategorized — wana at 4:41 pm on Thursday, November 27, 2008  Tagged , , , , , ,

What exactly is the Touch of Color LCD TV? Is it a gimic, a ground breaking, trend setting innovation or simply a clever marketing campaign? Well it may actually be a little bit of each.

The battle for market share for LCD TV sales has become increasingly challenging over the years. Samsung has tried a new approach to differentiate their LCDs in the battle for the LCD TV market share with it’s Touch of Color LCD flat screen TVs.

The Touch of Color LCDs have turned out to be a great success for Samsung as they have been wildly popular among consumers. The Touch of Color design is a unique color process that adds a hint of amber color blended in with the traditional piano black bezel for a smooth, sleek, attractive appearance. The popularity of the TV has proved that consumers are interested in having their TVs be attractive pieces of art, even when turned off. I would expect for other manufacturers to follow suit with their own stylish and unique designs in the upcoming years.

The Touch of Color is a design feature simply for the exterior of the TV. It does not light up or add any other bells or whistles. While the design element is attractive, the TV obviously would not be successful if it did not perform brilliantly when turned on. The Samsungs do not disappoint in this area either.

The Samsungs offer a full 1080p picture for the ultimate HD resolution. The crisp, clear images capture the essence of high definition television.

The Samsungs offer a 4ms response time and a 120hz frame rate with their Auto Motion Plus technology that doubles the frame rate from 60hz to 120hz. The Auto Motion Plus technology allows the TV to interpolate between frames for a smooth transition. It handles motion extremely well unlike early LCD models making it great for sports and other shows or movies where there is a lot of fast moving action.

In addition the TVs offer a 50,000:1 contrast ratio which improves upon the already impressive 25:000:1 contrast ratio of the previous year’s model. Contrast ratio determines the ability to produce dark blacks and bright whites. A higher contrast ratio will help avoid a washed out image that can be seen in TVs with a lesser contrast ratio.

This year’s model also includes InfoLink, which provides access to free RSS news, sports, stock and weather feeds through a built-in Ethernet port.

While the Touch of Color in and of itself is not a ground breaking innovation, it is certainly a design feature that has seemed to be a hit with consumers and will more then likely start a trend towards having TVs seen as pieces of art while on as well as turned off. The attractive design along with innovative features and smooth, crisp HD screen images make the Samsung Touch of Color LCD flat screens one of the best TVs for your money out on the market today.

Lazy Town

Perhaps one of the happiest days in a kid’s life is December 25. Not only are they on vacation at that date, they will also be receiving different kinds of gifts from virtually everyone. Christmas season is in fact the most anticipated day of the year, more so than their birthdays.

With so many people already giving them toys, it is sometimes already a cliché to be giving them toys again. But with their minds anticipating toys as Christmas gifts, it is often hard to find a non-toy gift that a kid will truly appreciate.

Below are some non-toy gifts that kids will (hopefully) appreciate.

1. Educational computer programs

This is one avenue where they can have fun while learning. What is more, they will be able to hone their skills on the keyboard and in manipulating the various commands in the computer. There are actually a lot of titles to choose from. There are Disney games that are really educational. Puzzle games such as Wheel of Fortune, and Jeopardy are also great in developing the vocabulary and the knowledge in current events.

Another game that is really popular among the kids is Where in the world is Carmen San Diego. It combines detective work with travel and current events as well as math and word games. a definite plus to any kid’s video game collection.

2. Craft packs

Another toy that is not really a toy is craft packs that are often available in craft stores and in toy shops. Craft packs allow kids to explore their artistic and creative side as well as fill their time with a worthwhile and productive exercise.

There are different kinds of crafts to choose from. Just make sure that the craft that you have chosen is appropriate to the age of the kid. Remember that some craft activities require them to make use of sharp objects so be very careful in giving them gifts that may potentially be dangerous for them.

3. A trip to the museum or to the zoo

One way to ensure fun and learning without giving them another toy is to give them a day in a favorite place where they can have fun. A trip to the zoo or to the Science Centrum is a great Christmas gift for a kid.

Of course, take into consideration their interests. If it’s in the Arts, you can accompany them to an art gallery or if Science is their thing to the NASA museum.
